A Full-Size Target Opens at Firestone City Centre — About 15 Minutes From Mead
The new 128,000-square-foot Target at Firestone City Centre is open, and for most Mead households it is now the closest full-size Target there is. Here is what is inside and how it changes the local errand map.

Mead's closest full-size Target just opened
After a couple of years of watching the shell go up off Interstate 25, the new Target at Firestone City Centre is finally open. The store sits at 4358 City Centre Road, near Colorado Highway 119 and I-25, and at roughly 128,000 square feet it is a full-size location — not a small-format store. For most of Mead, it is now the nearest Target, full stop.
It is Target's 48th store in Colorado, and it opened with the company's newer "food forward" layout, which pushes fresh and seasonal grocery toward the front of the store rather than tucking it in a back corner. The store director, a Colorado native, told reporters the location would bring on around 200 team members.

Beyond the grocery-forward setup, the Firestone store carries the usual full-size mix and a few add-ons worth knowing about:
A CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks cafe inside the store.
Apparel, home goods, and everyday essentials — the standard big-box assortment.
Drive Up, Order Pickup, and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360, with next-day delivery available across Firestone.
EV charging stations in the lot.

Where it sits — and how long the drive really is
From Mead, this is an easy trip. The store is essentially a straight shot south down I-25 to the Highway 119 interchange, which for most Mead neighborhoods lands in the neighborhood of 15 minutes depending on where you start and how the lights fall. Households over toward Liberty Ranch and the newer subdivisions on the south and east sides of town will likely find it the quickest big-box run they have. Folks up in Coyote Run or Margil Farms are looking at a slightly longer but still short hop.
I would still check it against your own routine — for some Mead addresses, Longmont is a comparable drive and already part of the weekly loop. The honest answer is that Mead now sits almost exactly between two solid options, which is not a bad problem to have.
A bigger shift at Firestone City Centre
The Target is the anchor, but it is not the whole story. Firestone City Centre is a 140-acre development with more than 600,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and it already includes names like The Home Depot and American Furniture Warehouse. As more of it fills in, the practical effect for Mead is that a growing share of the errands that used to mean a Longmont or Loveland trip can now be done a few exits south.
What it means for a Mead errand run
Living in Mead has always come with a little math around errands — the town is small, and a real shopping trip means driving somewhere. What the Firestone store changes is the direction of that drive for a lot of households. If your grocery-plus-household-goods run used to default to Longmont, it is worth trying the Firestone route once and seeing which one actually saves you time. That is the kind of thing that only becomes obvious after you have done it a couple of times.
